In this article, we describe the five-day easy rider tour, but do not reveal all the highlights and stops. It’s more fun to find this out for yourself if you also go on the tour. In our stories on Instagram, under the highlight “5-day easy rider tour Dalat – Hoi An” you can see all the images and videos.

Who do you book the five-day easy rider tour with?

Through friends, we got Quy’s number. Quy is an original easy rider and has been doing this work for decades. First we did a one-day easy rider tour in the Dalat area, we liked this so much that we decided to also do the five-day easy rider tour in Vietnam with Quy. Below we describe this tour.

Tip: Quy’s whatsapp number is +84 908 620 055.

Day 1: Easy rider tour in Vietnam

At 08:00 in the morning, we were picked up at the hostel by easy rider Quy and his friend Phán. The backpacks are carefully strapped to the back of the bike, we put the helmet on and here we go! Along the way we stop, among other things, at a house where the family makes their own happy water. Happy water is a household name in Vietnam; happy water is rice wine, which is made extra strong. Some happy waters have alcohol percentages as high as 50 to 70%! It tastes like poorly brewed tequila and not everyone likes it. Even though it has just been 09:00, we also take a shot of freshly brewed happy water….

After this we drive on again and slowly the landscapes become more and more beautiful. We drive more and more into the mountains where it fortunately cools down a little bit. The next stop is with the minority people in the Central Highlands. The minority people are an ethnic minority but are respected by all Vietnamese. Each tribe has its own language and customs. Here we meet a local family and are allowed to look around the house. Very special to see how they live and communicate. To thank us for our visit, we also receive a beautiful, handmade necklace.

Then we drive on for another bit and stop at a tarragon fruit farm. Quy buys us a fresh tarragon fruit which we then eat with coffee. SO delicious! You really taste that the tarragon fruit comes straight from the land. After lunch we ride further into the mountains. Along the way, you really do encounter all kinds of animals: cows, goats, buffaloes, chickens, pigs and many locals who wave enthusiastically at you. You notice that you are already out of the tourist area: everyone is looking at you, calling after you and waving at you. They are very excited to see a tourist.

Just before we arrive at the hotel, we drive through the rice fields. Suddenly Quy stops and drives into a narrow road. We see plants flying through the air here and wonder what we are going to do here. Easy rider Quy explains that this machine separates the rice grains from the plant. You see the entire plant go in and underneath come out the grains of rice. What a handy invention and again so fun to see!

At 6 p.m. we arrive at our first hotel exhausted. We are treated to an insane sunset at the rice paddy, which we can see from the room. After this, we eat hotpot with Quy and Phán and it’s time to go to bed early.

Day 2: Central highlands vietnam

Day 2; we are looking forward to it again! Today we will continue driving the easy rider into Vietnam’s Central Highlands. We first visit a local market and another local village where minority people live. Quy tells fascinating stories everywhere, through this you learn so much about Vietnam’s culture and people’s beliefs.

Further stops today include a factory where bricks are made, we see cocoa fruit on the tree and do the highlight of this trip: swimming and showering at a beautiful waterfall! You are all alone here, together with Quy and Phán and the surroundings are SO beautiful. We didn’t understand why tourists never come here, it really feels like paradise. We swim in the blue water and then shower under the waterfall. Quy jokes, cuts a watermelon and the three of us eat it while enjoying the beautiful scenery.

Day 3: Ho Chi Minh Trail

Today is day 3 of the easy rider tour, this will be a long day. Indeed, today is scheduled for a 280-kilometer ride along the Ho Chi Minh Trail. We leave early and stop at some beautiful churches and temples along the way. Late in the morning we arrive at a local house. Inside, a lady makes rice sheets. We may also try it but it is even more difficult than it seems. Of course, we also get to eat some delicious rice sheets again and with filled bellies we move on.

We stop at a number of monuments commemorating the Vietnam War. The Central Highlands and the Ho Chi Minh Trail have been the scene of some of the fiercest fighting during the Vietnam War. You will see many monuments with names of victims and soldiers.

Furthermore, easy rider Quy makes sure we get plenty of rest in between. Occasionally we stop to rest somewhere for half an hour and along the road we walk for a few minutes to shake loose the legs. In the afternoon we come to another beautiful lake where we walk for a bit. It is a long drive but the nice stops and Quy’s good care make it manageable.

Day 4: Kon Tum

Day 4 we start from Kon Tum. This village is near the border with Laos. We visit local houses and see extraordinary buildings that are decades old. There is also a beautiful church in Kon Tum that we visit extensively. Behind the church is an orphanage. After the war, orphans were taken care of here. Nowadays, many children are left here when parents cannot care for them. Together with Quy, we walk in here and see the small children playing with the caregivers. The older children are in school. This is a special place in Kon Tum and it touches you to see the children like this.

From Kon Tum, we drive further along the Ho Chi Minh Trail into the mountains. This is insane again. Behind every bend is another high mountain, overgrown with the green jungle. We again enjoyed this day immensely.

Day 5: to Hoi An

Unfortunately, the last day of our easy rider tour has already arrived. After breakfast we leave at the fine hotel, driving straight back into the mountains. What a gift to start your morning this way. We stop at another viewpoint on the Ho Chi Minh Trail. From here you look completely into the valley and are surrounded by the high mountains.

At 3 p.m. we arrive in Hoi An already. Quy and Phán drop us off at our hotel and here we say goodbye. They now drive back to Dalat in 1.5 days via a different (less scenic) route. We relaxed by the pool in the afternoon and in the evening we toasted to a wonderful motorcycle ride through the Central Highlands and the Ho Chi Minh Trail of Vietnam.

Cost of the five-day easy rider tour

The five-day easy rider tour from Dalat to Hoi An costs $400 per person. Quy charges a fee of $80 per person per day. This is, at the time of writing, roughly equivalent to €72. For this amount, Quy arranges the 4 nights’ accommodation, gasoline, he and Phán receive salaries and arrange small things along the way such as fruit and a drink. You pay for breakfast, lunch and dinner yourself. You eat at local restaurants every day which means you spend an average of €1 to €2 per person per meal.

It is a hefty sum in total but well worth this unforgettable experience. We recommend everyone to book the easy rider tour with Quy and check out the options. Quy’s (whatsapp) number is +84 908 620 055.
