How to get to the abandoned water park in Hué?
You can choose to drive the motorbike yourself to the abandoned water park or take a cab or Grab. The taxi/Grab will drop you off at the entrance, from here you will walk another 10 minutes until you encounter the first attraction.
Do you ride the motorbike yourself? Then it’s a good search. From downtown Hué, you can drive to the abandoned water park in 20 minutes. Once you arrive, you don’t see an official entrance. Keep this point in Google Maps to get to the big dragon. Here you can also park your motorbike. From the big dragon you can walk or drive to the slides. It is recommended to do this on foot. After all, if you want to ride your motorbike back afterwards, you have a chance of encountering a guard who won’t let you drive back. We had to drive through the jungle in the wrong direction for over half an hour, then we came across a fence where we could not continue so we had to go back again. How did the abandoned water park in Hué come about?
In 2001, the Ho Thuy Tien opened its doors after a long period of construction costing more than $3 million. Unfortunately, Ho Thuy Tien fell far short of the number of visitors it had counted on. Consequently, the water park was never finished and soon closed again. It was not demolished but simply left that way so that the attractions eventually merged with nature. There is something exciting and scary about walking around here like this.
What is there to do at the abandoned water park?
The abandoned water park is famous mainly for the huge dragon in the middle of the lake. Furthermore, you can also go to the slides and will encounter monuments everywhere along the way that used to be attractions. It’s nice and creepy to walk around here but it’s very beautiful at the same time.
Three crocodiles used to live in the pool near the amphitheater. These were fortunately removed in 2016 due to safety concerns. So you no longer have to worry about this when you are in the abandoned water park.
