Sand dune tour in Mui Né
The No. 1 thing to do in Mui Né: the tour to the sand dunes. On the Internet, the sand dunes are also described as the desert but this is heavily exaggerated. They are a lot smaller dunes than we are used to in the Netherlands. In the distance you can even see the windmills and the sea. Nevertheless, it is a fun activity to undertake in Mui Né.

You can choose either the sunrise or the sunset tour. We recommend doing the sunrise tour because the temperature is still pleasant. The sunrise tour starts at 04:30 and ends around 09:00. You can easily book the sand dune tours at your ho(s)tel. It usually costs between 120,000 and 200,000 dong (€4.50 – €7.50). For this money, you will be picked up at your accommodation and driven to all the stops.
The first stop on the sunrise tour is the white sand dunes. You arrive here as the sun is about to rise. This is also the only stop where you have to pay extra money. In fact, you will go up the white sand dunes on a quad bike. The quad costs 300,000 dong (€11.50) per person or 800,000 dong (€27) to ride the quad by yourself for 20 minutes. You can also choose to walk yourself up the white sand dunes but this is a 4-kilometer trek through the fine sand.

At the white sand dune, you can see the sun slowly rise. You can enjoy the view and take photos here. When you’re done, ride the quad a little further to another viewpoint. We really liked the quad bike ride; you go very fast through the sand and you get an adrenaline rush. After this stop, you will take the quad back to the start where the jeep will be waiting for you.
Next, you will drive on to the second stop: the red sand dunes. Here you can walk around and sandboard for a while. For sandboarding in Mui Né, you pay 30,000 dong (€1.10) for a plastic board. You can sandboard the red sand dunes as many times as you want but you’ll probably be done with it after 3 times.

After the red sand dunes, you will drive to a stop where you will see fishermen at work. You can sit here quietly on a bench or descend to the sea where the fish is sold. We did not think this was a very special stop, so we quickly moved on. We liked the last stop best of all; the fairy streams of Mui Né. You take off your shoes and walk barefoot through a stream. The stream takes you past the extraordinary nature of Mui Né: one moment you are walking past flowers and the next you are among rocks and dunes.

You get one hour to walk in the fairy stream of Mui Né. Shoot beautiful pictures by the colored dunes and rocks and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. After this, you will be taken back to your accommodation where you can sleep in.
Kite and windsurfing in Mui Né
Despite being by the sea, Mui Né is not a typical beach destination. The current in the sea is very strong due to the strong winds. This does make it the ideal destination for windsurfers and kitesurfers. Many lessons are offered in Mui Né, also you can easily rent outfits and gear to kite- or windsurf in Mui Né. This is one of the best things to do in Mui Né.
