Digital nomad in Cambodia

Read the blog

Cambodia is a good country to stay in as a digital nomad. Cambodia is overall cheap, has good food and a warm climate. Occasionally the Internet may go down, but this will probably be once every few weeks. Furthermore, the Internet at coffee shops and hotels works perfectly 99% of the time. Read everything you want to know as a digital nomad in Cambodia below. Listed per destination are the best places to stay and/or coffee shops to work as a digital nomad in Cambodia.

Places to work in Siem Reap

This apartment is ideal when you have a small budget as a digital nomad. Available from $22 a night, it has its own kitchen and a table to work at. It is 2 kilometers outside the center of Siem Reap but you can easily take the Grab to the center. In addition, 1 kilometer away is the local market where you can buy very cheap fruits and vegetables. We worked here ourselves for 6 days and found it to be a great place to fully focus.

In the center of Siem Reap, around Pubstreet, you will find plenty of nice places to work where you can open your laptop properly. A cup of coffee costs between $2 and $3 in a coffee shop.

Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem as a digital nomad

If you want to travel to the islands of Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem, it is advisable to complete your work in advance. The wifi is very poor on both islands and often there is no internet connection at all. Travel from Siem Reap on your weekend to the islands, enjoy yourself without your laptop and then travel on to Kampot where you can open your laptop again.

Working in Kampot as a digital nomad

In Kampot, we stayed in a very nice hostel: Karma Traders. It is super social, very cozy because of the table tennis and rooftop bar and has a nice pool. The only downside is that there is no workstation and no good wifi. Therefore, we were able to test a number of coffee shops in Kampot. Lotus Café came out on top in the test.

Lotus Cafe has good coffee and, not unimportantly, very good wifi. The wifi is even strong enough to hold good meetings. The air conditioner does not blow extremely hard but enough. It is a pleasant temperature to spend a day working in. It is often nice and quiet in the café which allows you to work undisturbed. Around the Lotus Cafe you will find plenty of tasty restaurants where you can have lunch. A wonderful place for digital nomads in Cambodia.

Phnom Penh as a digital nomad

In Phnom Penh there are again some fine apartments with good wifi. Among others, La Belle Residence. It is near the Russian market where you can buy plenty of vegetables, fruits, souvenirs and clothes. The apartment has fast wifi and is equipped with everything you need. Anything else missing? Let the helpful landlord know. He does his very best to make you feel completely comfortable!

In addition, the Sun Apartment is also a great option in Phnom Penh. Slightly out of town but you can easily get anywhere with Grab. The Sun Apartment has a gym and rooftop pool in addition to the beautiful room. Wonderful to have your work breaks.

In addition, we stumbled upon a nice co-working space in Phnom Penh by chance. It’s called Suzy Time Café and this is the Google Maps location. Here you pay a flat fee of $2 per hour and a maximum of $5 per day. For this amount, you may order unlimited drinks. There is also good food on the menu and it is nice and quiet inside. Your productivity gets a huge boost right here! This is a super nice place for digital nomads in Cambodia.

Conclusion: is cambodia a good country for digital nomads?

Cambodia surprised us with nice places to work and fine apartments. Cambodia is easy to travel as a digital nomad. In every (small) place you can find a nice coffee shop with good wifi. Only on the islands of Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem, the internet is very poor. So enjoy your weekend in the islands and leave your laptop closed. Have fun as a digital nomad in Cambodia.
