By bus as transportation in Malaysia

The buses in Malaysia are very large and luxurious by Asian standards. You often have plenty of leg room and the rides are comfortable. If no one is sitting behind you, you can also fold your backrest all the way back allowing you to lie down. The buses always leave punctually so be sure to arrive at the bus station at least 15 minutes in advance. Transportation in Malaysia is therefore truly different from other countries in Asia, where departure time is a broad concept.

Through 12GO.Asia, you can easily see what time a bus leaves and from which station. You can also use 12GO.Asia to buy your ticket and reserve your seats. That way you can be sure you have a seat on the bus. This is especially important when departing from Cameron Highlands because very few buses go from here. It is recommended that you buy your bus ticket here at least 2 days in advance.

The largest bus station in Malaysia is the TBS station in Kuala Lumpur. From here, you can catch a bus to any destination in Malaysia or to Singapore. The bus to Singapore takes 4 hours (including border crossing).

The TBS station is large but very orderly. You can easily buy a ticket at the ticket machines, where there is always a friendly employee to help you with this. Your ticket then gets you access to the gate where you can wait for the bus. Makes sure you are at the TBS station at least half an hour before your bus leaves. You can also easily buy your ticket in advance through 12GO.Asia. Also read all the information about transportation in Kuala Lumpur.

Grab

When you are dropped off at the bus station, you still need to get to your accommodation. The best solution for this? Grab. Grab works the same as Uber and is widely used as transportation in Malaysia, as well as other countries in Asia. It’s very simple: you can create a free account with your name and email address. Once your account is created, you can specify where you want to go. Grab then automatically calculates the price based on mileage and shows it to you to confirm.

After this, the nearest Grab driver will be notified to pick you up. You can track on your screen exactly where the Grab is. You also see the license plate number and brand/make of the car which allows you to recognize him when he is nearby. The ride is tracked with Grab, so you won’t suddenly be dropped off somewhere else. The driver is a verified Grab driver and reliable due to positive reviews. You can, if you wish, just pay with cash when you get off or have it linked to your credit card. Grab is much cheaper than normal cabs, and it also saves you endless haggling over the price. So a very good organization!

We have already used Grab in Singapore, Borneo and Malaysia and are thickly satisfied with the service, cost and speed. Transportation in Malaysia is very well organized. If you don’t know something there is always a nice local willing to help you.
