What should you bring to bokor National Park?

Because Bokor is over 1,000 meters high, it is important to bring and prepare a few things before you set out. Consider the following items:

  • A warm sweater
  • Possibly long pants
  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses
  • Camera
  • Water
  • Snacks

Also, make sure your scooter is fully fueled. You scoot quite a bit uphill which means you use a lot of gasoline. Would you rather not scoot yourself? You can also arrange for a tuktuk to take you to the hotspots. Expect to pay about $30 for a tuktuk to Bokor National Park.

What to do in Bokor national park

Bokor National Park is easiest to visit from Kampot. You can drive from the center of Kampot to the entrance of Bokor in just 15 minutes. At the entrance you will see a barrier (which is always open). No need to stop here because entrance to Bokor National Park is free. From here you will drive uphill and will witness the beautiful nature of Bokor along the way.

Halfway up the mountain you encounter large groups of monkeys. They are quietly chilling along the road or looking for food. If you drive quietly past them they will not get aggressive and will not care about you.

The first stop in Bokor National Park is at a roadside ruin (open in Google Maps). The inside of this ruin is completely sprayed with graffiti. At the same time, several tree branches come in through the windows. Extraordinary to see!

After this ruin you scoot on. Eventually you pass several construction sites where they are busy building houses. A golden Buddha statue over a hundred meters high is also to be erected here. Anno 2023, they are busy building. It will take a while before everything is in place. After the construction site you will come to a gas station, here keep left. You are, in fact, on your way to Bokor Hill Station. This is the most famous spot in Bokor National Park. From the Bokor Hill Station you have an insane view of the surrounding area. Since early 2023, you cannot look around inside Bokor Hill Station. In fact, it has been converted into a hotel and today tourists are already sleeping here. You may still take a seat in the garden and admire the view from there. From Hill Station, also walk a little further to some ancient ruins where you can take cool photos.

Bokor National Park Old Hill Station

As you drive back from Bokor Hill Station, you will see another old church. Here you may walk in (which, of course, is also completely deserted). After visiting the church, it is recommended to walk to a viewpoint via a small climb. When there are few clouds, you can even see the Vietnamese island of Phú Quốc from here. After this stop, you can drive back to Kampot. You spend about an hour scooting from Bokor Hill Station to downtown Kampot.
