Digital Nomad in Malaysia

Read the blog

Malaysia is a wonderful country to travel through. The people are friendly, they speak good English and the food is delicious. When traveling as a digital nomad, finding the right accommodation or fine co-working spaces can sometimes be a challenge. With this article, we will help you with the best places to work as a digital nomad in Malaysia.

Content of this blog:

Kuala Lumpur

Of course, we start with Kuala Lumpur. The capital of Malaysia and one of the largest cities in Asia. There are many fun activities to do in Kuala Lumpur but it is also a city with good internet where you can do fine work. The accommodation Modern Design Studio is a recommended place to stay. For about €25 a night, you have a large apartment with a kitchen and a good workspace. The apartment complex also has a rooftop pool on the 37th floor that you may use. The internet in the apartment is very fast and the chairs are nice. Look here for other options for apartments in Kuala Lumpur.

WSPACE and Co-Labs Coworking are two fine co-working spaces for digital nomads in Kuala Lumpur with good Internet and desk space. Prices are listed on the website, they vary by season.

Ipoh

Ipoh itself we did not find a very nice city. You can see the temples and the limestone caves but that’s about it. It is, however, the gateway to the Cameron Highlands. In the Cameron Highlands it will be difficult to be able to work so in that respect it is convenient to plan a (work) stop in Ipoh. When there is little to do, you can focus well and you will find that you become even more productive. Therefore, Ipoh was a good stopover for us digital nomads. There are many good hotels or apartments where you can stay in Ipoh as a digital nomad. Look here for all options.

In Ipoh, there are no real co-working spaces. However, you can work at a fine coffee shop (which several digital nomads here will do). This is The Story Eatery. They have several tasty drinks here and a good menu. The wifi is not always great for large files. If you have a SIM card with unlimited Internet, it’s better to use it as a hotspot.

Penang

Penang is a wonderful city to spend a few days in. You can eat the best street food in Malaysia (and some say in all of Southeast Asia) here. In addition, you have lots of fun activities in Penang and Georgetown. The Straits Garden Suites apartment is a recommended place to stay if you want to work as a digital nomad during the day. The chairs are nice behind the right height on the laptop, it comes with a good kitchen and even its own washing machine in the apartment that you can use unlimited. This is the perfect place in Penang to stay as a digital nomad.

Langkawi

Langkawi is a fine place to enjoy the beach. Start work early in the morning, catch a few hours of sun on the beach in the afternoon and then continue working if necessary. This is THE digital nomad life right? At Chenang’s Guest House you don’t have an apartment but even a whole house! There are 2 bedrooms so it’s ideal if you are traveling with other digital nomads. The chairs are nice to work on. The sofa and TV make it feel very homey. If you can only get on the wifi with one person you need to send the owner a whatsapp and he will install the settings differently and the wifi will work for everyone.

These are the places we have worked ourselves and can sincerely recommend. Certainly the apartments are very nice at times because of the space and homey feeling. Also check out all our Malaysia tips for more inspiration for your Malaysia tour.
