Fulidhoo is one of the smallest islands in the Maldives. In width you walk 2 minutes from beach to beach and in length 6 and a half minutes. It is the ideal destination in Maldives to completely unwind and enjoy with a book in the sun. In this blog you can read how to get there, what to do in Fulidhoo, which accommodations we recommend and which nice tours you can do.

What to do on Fulidhoo?
Because Fulidhoo is such a small island, there are really no activities on Fulidhoo itself. On bikini beach – in the south of the island – there are a number of beach beds where you can relax for an afternoon. Fortunately, bikini beach also has a number of umbrellas because the sun is super strong.
The Maldives is an Islamic country. Because of this, on the local islands you have to cover up everywhere (a t-shirt and shorts will do). So you cannot just walk through the streets in bikini, except on bikini beach. There you are allowed to lie down and swim in swimwear.

Snorkeling with nurse sharks and rays from Fulidhoo
Fulidhoo is known for being able to snorkel with nurse sharks and rays right from the beach. We want to add some nuance to this, as this is not entirely the case.
We visited Fulidhoo in 2025, and let’s say right away: from the beach, you cannot snorkel with nurse sharks or stingrays (anymore). The nurse sharks are much further out to sea, and in the evening 1 or 2 sharks come down to the pier of Fulidhoo to eat the leftover fish that the fishermen have thrown overboard. We saw one swimming by itself. Since this is around sunset and it gets dark soon, that’s why you can’t really snorkel with them very well.
The rays are unfortunately fed. In the morning between 08:00 and 09:00 groups of hotel guests come to the beach to feed the stingrays and take pictures with them. The rays are then in the super shallow water so you can take pictures but not snorkel with them. Once the food is finished they disappear as quickly as they came. Between 10:00 and 12:00 this ritual is repeated by the day-tourists who are on a tour from Maafushi.

We never support the feeding of wild animals so we were very sorry to see this. Especially since we understood from others that a few years ago it was possible to see both animals while snorkeling from Fulidhoo.
Snorkeling with nurse sharks on tour
However, it is possible to see the nurse sharks (nursing sharks) with a tour from Fulidhoo. Every morning 1 or 2 boats go out to sea to Shark Point. Here you can see dozens of nurse sharks and if you are lucky also a blacktip shark. Unfortunately, the sharks are also fed here, so tourists can see many of them and swim with them.

After Shark Point, you will also go to Turtle Point and to a Coral Garden. You are about 3 hours on this tour and it costs between $45 and $55 per person, depending on how many others you share the boat with. You can easily arrange this at your stay in Fulidhoo. This tour also goes from Maafushi, so if you don’t want to stay on Fulidhoo you won’t have to miss anything.

Whale shark tour from Fulidhoo
We do not recommend taking a whale shark tour from Fulidhoo. This is because of the extremely high prices of this tour. Because Fulidhoo is so small and few tourists visit, there are also few people with whom you can share the boat. This causes the average price for a whale shark tour from Fulidhoo to be between $180 and $400 per person. For reference, in Maafushi you pay a fixed price of $100 per person everywhere.
Playing a game of soccer with fellow tourists and locals
Although Fulidhoo is a mini island, you will find a soccer field. Around late afternoon, locals and tourists sometimes gather here to kick a ball around. Do you love soccer and want to be able to say you played soccer at this beautiful location? Then be sure to take a look at the soccer field. You’ll find Fulidhoo’s soccer field near bikini beach. Do put on a shirt if you want to play along.
Sunset on Fulidhoo
The sunset on Fulidhoo is insane. Every day everyone on Fulidhoo gathers on the west side of the island to watch the sunset. Without music and light pollution, it has a magical atmosphere that you can stare at for hours. Delightful!
